People cannot survive on the surface of the planet closest to the sun. Bercus is formed of mostly volcanos; active and dormant. The weather is dry and dusty on this black planet and can look very hostile to all that see it. 

There is life on the surface but not like any other planet has.  The surface life adapts to the heat and sun but does not mingle with the other occupants of the planet. 

The population, hardworking and always helping each other, find a way to survive and thrive although they cannot fly … or so they think.
